The Official Story

Watching the movie I feel that Alicia was never able to get passed the fact that her child was the offspring of the murdered couple, it's obvious because she doesn't let the subject go with her husband. It started when she saw him off at the airport and when he got home from work the one day and the child's possible biological grandmother was sitting there. The most graphic display of her not being able to let go was when Alicia's husband beat her and smashed her fingers in between the door frame. The stress started to take it's toll on both Alicia and her husband and you saw their relationship fall apart completely but the end of the film. It never appeared to me that she was ever going to find peace with the subject manner, I felt it wasn't built into her personality.

  1. I agree with you that it wasn't part of Alicia's personality to let this subject go. Alicia is a strong female character, but she is very controlling in every aspect of her life except her husband. She does not put up with alot from her students or other faculty, and she seems to be straight forward and in control of how she want things to turn out. However, her husband is clearly the one in control of her marriage, and when she continues to pick at this subject, he snaps. Alicia does not appear like she is able to let this idea go, and she is in a hard place because she is so strong and powerful when it comes to everything else, but she is not good at handling this situation.
